The Bible and Cats-Revenge

By Gabriel Smith gabrielsmithpro@gmail.com

For this post I want to talk about cats.

You heard me right cats. These fuzzy little creatures are loved by many. But I have noticed often cats take revenge. One cat might decide to pounce on another and attack it, sometimes in play sometimes in a little cat-sized war. These “fun” attacks can end in two angry cats. The attacker might find itself bored and leave the fight. But I have noticed the fight is not always over. The once victim may decide to get revenge and attack back. This may end in hissing.
Revenge only makes the cats fight worse. In the same way, people might get angry at one another and lash out or do something one person considers unjust. If we are “wronged” we can want revenge. We want to get the person back. “They treated me wrong so they are just getting justice” we may think. So we lash back we get our revenge. But this may cause the first person to try and get revenge for the other person’s revenge and this could go on and on for some time.
But is it really right to take revenge?

Let’s go to the Bible
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
Romans 12:19
Never avenge. That means never. As in never. “But I really want to get that person back. My situation is different” you may think. It doesn’t matter what you think it matters what God said not what you think. God knows you and your situation and God still said not to avenge. God loves justice. God made the whole world in six days, if God can do that, God can bring about justice.
