Be the Least

By Gabriel Smith gabrielsmithpro@gmail.com

We live in a world that says “be better than others, do all
you can to beat everyone else in everything you do, you have to make yourself
the most important person in your life”. And all of this is wrong.

Do nothing from selfish
ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than
yourselves.
(Philippians 2:3)

We have to become the least. We have to put everyone else before
ourselves, even people we dislike. Think about Jesus, He healed the ear of a man
who had just come to arrest Him. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like the person you
have to hold their life as higher than yours. We have to make ourselves the
least however possible. We have to put God first (including the things God’s
asks us), others second, and ourselves very last.

We can do this in many ways, for example, choosing the hardest jobs that nobody wants, cleaning up the cat litter box or doing other nasty chores, and giving other people the best piece of cake when at a party. In our spiritual walk with God, we should give God our first and best in everything, we should serve God’s purpose for our lives instead of our own, for example, Tithe your ten percent before buying the new car, lawn mower, or couch, and give God the first part of your day by waking up early and spend half an hour or more reading and praying.

There are so many ways you can put God and others first; how are you going to be the least?
